This course addresses the foundations of clinical mental health counseling, including the history and philosophy of the counseling profession, counselor professional identity, and the multiple professional roles of counselors. Special attention will be devoted to the understanding of prevention, intervention, and advocacy and to the processes of consultation and supervision. Students will also need to identify and design approaches for addressing community needs.
